A little Background

Bill got his start in both music and graphics around 12. He began piano lessons as well as composing, and at the same time was coached in graphics by a family friend who was a commercial artist.

After winning a few local competitions and entering the Young Artist Guild, he divided his college years between Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore and California State University, Northridge.

He went into both fields immediately after college, starting as a staff accompanist at Los Angeles City College and Los Angeles Valley College, as well as learning to typeset at Beyond Baroque Foundation in Venice. These careers paralleled for many years, including vocal studios, church choirs, and professional singers and choirs, as well as arranging and composing for a variety of projects. Some highlights include playing for the Los Angeles Master Chorale, the legendary California Boys Choir and the Pasadena Boys Choir, a number of prominent singers and instrumentalists in the Los Angeles area, rehearsal accompanist with conductors such as Michael Tilson Thomas, opera repetiteur with Giorgio Tozzi and others, studio and film sessions, and numerous composing/arranging projects.

In the late 80s he was approached by Todd Garfinkle, audio wizard of the Japanese label, M.A. Recordings, about recording an album of solo piano music, which was recorded in Japan and well reviewed by Keyboard Magazine. Selections from the album were used for Japanese commercials and others.

After many years of working in graphics, Bill brought together his design background and technical skills to become a freelance designer, specializing in book design and typography, for a number of publishers as well as several UCLA academic departments.

Musically he has seen many diverse projects come his way in the past decade, including theme parks, video games, film scores, orchestral mockups, production music, music directing, and of course as well as playing, including work as staff accompanist at Occidental College.

In 2012, he moved to the coastal town of Cambria and set up a studio for both his music and graphics work.
